The results I've had withy the Crips Gray filament in lithophane making has been less than stellar. That being said, most of the problem is most likely my fault. I was having respectable results with the white filament i was using. Changing to the crisp gray and using LM's recommended settings gave a rather poor result. But practice should help immensely. Time will tell.
Hi Clay,
The Crisp Gray is definitely less forgiving than our other four lithophane colors. Finding the right balance for the minimum and maximum thicknesses (especially the maximum) has less room for error. Typically the best settings are 0.6 - 0.7 for the min and 2.6 - 2.8 for the max, but that can certainly change based on the image and light source. We recommend printing some sort of lithophane calibration STL (you can find ours here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5452531) so you can get a feel for the right settings using your specific light source. If you find that you still can't find that right balance feel free to reach out to us and we are more than happy to help!
Sincerely,
The AF Team
